With Treasure Trove wrapping up soon, it was only a matter of time before Yacht Club Games revealed the next great Shovel Knight adventure. However, it turns out said adventure has already been in development for over a year! As a collaborative effort between Yacht Club and Nitrome, Shovel Knight Dig pits the Blue Burrower against a groundbreaking new enemy. After Drill Knight destroys his campsite and steals all his hard-earned loot, Shovel Knight must tail the drill-dozing dastard underground to win it all back and save the land from collapsing underfoot!

Going down, down, down…

Shovel Knight Dig is a 2D dungeon-crawler where the only way for Shovel Knight to go is down. With randomly-generated stage layouts, no two journeys underground will be the same as you hunt for wealth and new abilities. Shovel Knight will need to unlock as many permanent items and upgrades as possible; going up against Drill Knight and his Hexcavators, including the new Spore Knight, will be no easy feat. The series’ signature humor and storytelling is here in full force, as well as some returning faces (hi Chester!).

Dig also boasts a bright and colorful new art style compared to Treasure Trove, courtesy of the folks at Nitrome. The British indie studio developed Bomb Chicken for Nintendo Switch last year, and worked on a number of free flash games and Unity games since 2004. Video game virtuoso Jake Kaufman also returns as the game’s composer.

We don’t have a release date yet, but the game looks like a blast. If you’re lucky enough to be at PAX West this weekend, you can demo the Nintendo Switch version of Shovel Knight Dig at Yacht Club Games’ booth! Of course, you can also try the latest demos for King of Cards, Showdown, and Mechanical Head Studios’s Cyber Shadow at the Seattle convention as well.
