For reasons unknown to the rational universe, the Switch OS did away with the 3DS and Wii U’s superbly detailed and accessible activity logs, which reported average play sessions, total playtime, and more for every game in a player’s library. The Switch, meanwhile, only shows estimates that update every five hours of playtime, and, as we recently learned, caps at 9,999 hours (though I’m not sure I’ll lose sleep over that limit). The discovery, which stemmed from a player hitting that insane cap in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, got me thinking: What Switch title have you put the most time into?
At 100 hours, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate takes the crown for me. It’s the game to play when I’m with friends, and I’m constantly playing on my own to learn new characters and practice specific moves. I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of several other Switch titles as well: Super Mario Odyssey comes in second at around 90 hours, and then what I’m sure will be the most popular pick among all of you, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, weighs in with 70 hours. The other major time-sinks have been Splatoon 2 at 55 hours and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 45 hours, and my most-played indie game is Ultimate Chicken Horse at a measly 30 hours, but that’s a game permanently settled in my multiplayer rotation, so it’ll keep on climbing.
What have you put the most time into?
I’m sure plenty of you can put my measly 100 hours in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to shame. I’ve heard of plenty of players reaching over a thousand hours in Splatoon 2, and lots of people who did way more than I did in Breath of the Wild have pushed through a few hundred hours.
