The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is just a week away, and Nintendo has marked the occasion by showing off some images from the upcoming art book paired with the game’s special edition. Many of the pictures are from the game’s conceptual stage, with some depicting a much more traditional 2D Zelda art style while others show the gradual progression of the diorama aesthetic Link’s Awakening ultimately went with. A few of the highlights are posted below, and the full gallery can be found on Nintendo’s Japanese website.
This picture shows off several of the considered diorama-style designs, and a gradual progression towards that adorable version of Link we’ve all come to love. I think they made the right choice!
Here, we see drawings of a few different enemies, characters, and key locations in The Legend of Zeld: Link’s Awakening. A close-up on that castle at the directly follows.
The characters and locations shown off in these pictures do a wonderful job showing off the whimsical atmosphere that dominates The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, and how it has clearly been a design goal from the very start of development.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is only seven days away. I cannot keep myself from clicking through every new image, video, and preview that pops up on the game–it’s one of my most anticipated titles for the rest of the year, easily. What about for you? The beautiful art style is a big reason behind my excitement, and so are positive previews like this one (if you’re reading this, John, I’m quite jealous). All in all, it looks like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will deliver with its long-requested remake, and I could not be happier. In seven days, we will all know for sure, but if you are going crazy with anticipation like I am, then in the meantime, keep an eye on Nintendo Enthusiast for our review and all the other Link’s Awakening coverage you could ever want.
