Untitled Goose Game will fulfill all of our innermost goosey desires come tomorrow, but in the meantime, we cannot do much more than plan out our goose antics, appreciate the ridiculous gameplay, and learn about the game and its origins. In an interview with Quarter Circles, the developers behind Untitled Goose Game shared some interesting bits and pieces about creating the game. Most interestingly, when asked which games most inspired the forthcoming goosey adventure, House House responded with Super Mario 64 and Hitman.
Specifically, House House took notes from Super Mario 64‘s much-loved movement while basing NPC behavior off of the sort of stuff you see in Hitman. How those two titles combined to hatch Untitled Goose Game, I’ll never know. What I do know is that I’m here for it–Super Mario 64 and Hitman sound like a very strange mix of influences, but coming across this news after seeing gameplay, my only reaction was “Huh, sounds about right.” Hopefully backwards long jumps made it in.
