Nintendo is 130 years old today hanafuda to video games

Nintendo was founded on Sept. 23, 1889, which means it is 130 years old today. And it’s come a long way from its days as a simple hanafuda card manufacturer! Just 2019 alone has been quite a year for the big gaming company. The Switch continues to see massive success. Reggie Fils-Aime stepped down from his position only to be replaced by Bowser himself. We’ve also seen the release of awesome new games, such as Astral Chain, Link’s Awakening, and Super Mario Maker 2. There’s even a smaller version of the Switch available now!

So Nintendo has quite a bit to celebrate on its 130th birthday. But there’s more to the company’s history than the past year. Today, we get to celebrate all things Nintendo. Remember the first time you bested your older sibling in GoldenEye. Think about the time you first held an NES controller in your hand and played Super Mario Bros. No matter what you think of Nintendo today, you’re here because you’ve had a strong relationship with them in the past.

Personally, my favorite Nintendo memory will always be the first time I played Super Mario 64. I’ll never forget playing the game for countless hours with my brother, trying to find all the stars in the game. When it comes to my favorite moments with Nintendo, Mario 64 forever stands out.

What are some of your favorite Nintendo memories throughout the years? Let’s celebrate 130 years by reminiscing about old memories from our favorite gaming company.

Adam Sherrill
I love all kinds of video games. I personally find the most enjoyment in JRPGs, Visual Novels, and pretty much anything Nintendo makes. I'm always open to discovering new types of games, so I'll be happy to check out anything someone suggests.
