Super Nintendo World photos Universal Studios Japan

If somebody decides to build a new store in your town, it’ll probably get a story in the local news, but it’s not likely to draw headlines every single time somebody takes a new photo of the construction. Amusement park attractions are a different story though. And Nintendo amusement park attractions like Super Nintendo World are an extremely different story. So with that in mind, take a look at the newest batch of photos from Universal Studios Japan — and admire how the park is finally starting to look like something.

It recently came to light that Super Nintendo World will debut in Universal Studios Japan with two rides: Super Mario Kart Ride and Yoshi’s Adventures. There will also be interactive games with score-keeping that can be recorded and brought back to the park to keep building upon those scores, though the details of how it will work are still unclear.

Back in July, an alleged concept model for the Nintendo park from about three years ago came out, and it looks pretty extraordinary. How much of that design is actually being retained for the final construction, if any, is uncertain.

Super Nintendo World will open at Universal Studios Japan in time for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The park will come to other Universal Studios locations at some point in the future.
