Balan Wonderworld demo

We’re just about two months out from Balan Wonderworld‘s launch, and my excitement is currently at an all-time high. The upcoming 3D platformer from Sonic creator Yuji Naka features twelve colorful worlds to explore and over 80 different ability-granting costumes to collect. Though the launch is still a few months away, if you’re looking to get an early look at the game, Square Enix has you covered. A free demo is heading to the Switch eShop next week!

Starting at midnight on Thursday, January 28th, you’ll be able to download a demo covering two hours of Balan Wonderworld. Within this demo, you and up to one friend will be able to explore three of the game’s worlds. World 1, titled “The Man Who Rages Against the Storm,” features a farmer whose crops were struck by a terrible storm, and features Acts 1 and 2, as well as a playable boss battle. World 4 is titled “The Boy Who Would be One with the Wind” and features an open sky filled with floating islands and bicycle parts. Lastly, World 6 is titled “The Girl and the Kitten,” and highlights buildings full of moving gears. Both World 4 and World 6 both feature only a single act to play through, but combined with the extensive look at World 1, this should be plenty to tide fans over until the full release.

In addition to these worlds, the Isle of Tims will be available to explore. This area serves as the hub world, providing access to each of the stages in the game. The Isle of Tims (similar to the Chao Gardens found in Sonic titles) is home to magical creatures known as Tims, which have powerful abilities which can prove useful to playable characters Leo and Emma. When exploring the Isle, you’ll be able to gather magical droplets to feed to the Tims to evolve their abilities, making them even more useful on your adventure.

Balan Wonderworld launches on Switch on March 26th, available for pre-order now at a price of $59.99. A collector’s edition including the game, a pin, soundtrack, tote bag, and theater program is also available for $124.99. If you’re on the fence about ordering, be sure to check out the Balan Wonderworld demo next week!
