While most of us are head-over-heels for the recently launched The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening remake, a major Dragon Quest Builders 2 player has crafted a tribute to a different, slightly more famous top-down Zelda title. YouTuber BenXC uploaded a short trailer today for his recreation of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in the popular Dragon Quest building game. Check the video out for yourself and marvel at how good of a job he did.
According to the video, the project took over 150 hours of work over the course of half a year. The final build features over 2,500 “hand-planted” trees and a staggering 300,000 blocks. You can check out the island for yourself with the level ID: npyrd8ZJVM. The visual walkthrough of a fully 3D Hyrule as it appears in A Link to the Past is jawdropping, and I am suddenly in desperate need of another remake from the series even though Link’s Awakening has been out for all of twelve seconds.
Seeing classic game settings rebuilt through creative modes in newer titles is always super cool, like this rebuild of the original The Legend of Zelda in Fortnite’s Creative Mode. The expanded capabilities of Dragon Quest Builders 2 make BenXC’s work slightly more expansive, though. He did a pretty awesome job as far as I am concerned. I would love to see him try his hand at rebuilding other Zelda titles beyond A Link to the Past, and even environments from other Nintendo worlds such as those appearing in Earthbound.
