There has been an interestingly large number of golf games that have come to the Nintendo Switch. Even so, Playtonic’s new A Little Golf Journey seeks to shake things up a bit by introducing a variety of different mechanics, thus offering a unique gameplay experience.
Rather than a traditional golf set-up, A Golf Journey allows players to propel the ball across great distances from unique perspectives, in addition to making use of cool power-ups. The core mechanics that you’d expect from a golf game are still there, but the overall look and feel is different.
Describing itself as “a peaceful puzzler”, A Little Golf Journey features a variety of courses (over 100, to be exact) that span across ten different environments, including locales like the moon (complete with zero-gravity mechanics). There are also secret holes, collectibles and mysteries spread out across the various levels.
What’s definitely one of this little Nindie’s main features is its visual presentation. The artstyle is bright, colorful and uses cool effects like tilt shifting to really emphasize the miniaturized nature of the environments from the perspective of the ball itself. There’s also a lot of different effects going on, like intense water reflections, partical effects and others, making it quite the visual treat on Switch (particularly for you OLED owners out there).
Playtonic’s A Little Golf Journey is already out now on the Nintendo eShop for $19.00.
