Alongside a new gameplay trailer for Neon White and the announcement of Storyteller, the Annapurna Interactive Showcase today also revealed Cloisters Interactive‘s A Memoir Blue for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Game Pass, Steam, and iOS. The game is an “interactive poem about a superstar athlete and the all-encompassing love between mother and daughter,” and it is coming “soon.”
A Memoir Blue combines 3D art assets and hand-drawn visuals to weave a journey through magic realism, and “A series of gameplay vignettes blends sacrifice and heartbreak with victory and pride as (protagonist Miriam) reconnects with her inner child and deepens the love she shares with her mother.” So no, this will not be a hardcore action experience, but it sounds exactly like the artsy, unorthodox type of game that Annapurna Interactive is known for. These are the people who published Florence and If Found…, after all.
A Memoir Blue coming to Nintendo Switch and all these other platforms is another example of how incredibly varied video games have become in the past decade with the rise of indie developers. Twenty years ago, a game like this basically just didn’t exist because publishers couldn’t justify such a thing. Now, there’s room for everything.
