A Plague Tale: Requiem gameplay reveal trailer The Game Awards 2021 TGA Asobo Studio Focus Entertainment

At The Game Awards 2021 last night, publisher Focus Entertainment (formerly Focus Home Interactive) and developer Asobo Studio showed off the gameplay reveal trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem, which despite the “gameplay reveal” moniker is still heavy on story sequences. The game looks pretty beautiful on the whole, and it should, as it’s skipping PlayStation 4 and Xbox One completely and only coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (plus Game Pass), PC, and as a cloud version to Nintendo Switch in 2022.

Additional info sets the scene for the A Plague Tale: Requiem gameplay reveal trailer:

As Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem “Requiem sets the tone, witness the first glimpses of Amicia and Hugo’s epic new adventure in a brutal, breathtaking world twisted by supernatural forces. After escaping their devastated homeland, Amicia and Hugo journey far south to new regions and vibrant cities. Discover the cost of saving those you love in a desperate struggle for survival. Strike from the shadows or unleash hell, overcoming foes and challenges with a variety of crafted tools and supernatural powers.

A Plague Tale: Requiem marks the first, striking instance where a game is too powerful to arrive on old hardware, yet a publisher still won’t dare not have its game on the “it prints money” machine that is Nintendo Switch. And while cloud versions of Switch games have palpable problems, the option to play this way is still better than having no option at all. (Of course, grouchy Kingdom Hearts fans may disagree.)

Meanwhile, Asobo’s first title in its plague-ridden series, A Plague Tale: Innocence, arrived on Switch as as cloud version this past July.
