Recently, a Reddit user, u/Otakulad, shared a strange officially licensed Nintendo calendar from 1991. In a fun turn of events, the calendar can now be used in 2019 and be accurate. The calendar is full of images from classic Nintendo games and scenarios within those games like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Metroid. So, if you’re in the market for a retro calendar that you can use for 2019, see if you can find one of these in the deepest corners of the internet.

1991 Nintendo Calendar

What is odd about this calendar, however, are the strange images of Nintendo’s various trademark characters. The art style is a bit rough and trippy. Samus looks like she’s in a vintage underwater deep sea diving suit. And, Mario has crazy eyes that are quite beady like he’s on drugs. I’d be a little creeped out if the plumber was staring me down with those eyes (sorry Bowser and Peach). If you’d like to take a gander at the entire breadth of this calendar, u/Otakulad has posted the whole thing here.

Finding gaming relics is always such a thrill. Do you have any past Nintendo antiquities packed away in your basement or attic? If so, we’d like to hear about it in the comments section below.
