Aggelos for Nintendo Switch April 25, 2019

Aggelos is a non-linear retro 2D platformer from Storybird Games, PQube Limited, and Look At My Game, and it will release for Nintendo Switch on April 25. The game is promising a retro flavor slathered over modern game design sensibilities, and it looks pretty solid. The game already released for Steam last year and received a positive user reception.

If you haven’t seen it already, you can check out the Switch announcement trailer below, and then you can watch the first 10 minutes of gameplay, courtesy of Direct-Feed Games. I’m really digging some of the music.

Personally, the graphics are a real anomaly to me. They’re too pretty to call NES graphics, but the color palette is too simple to call SNES-quality, so it looks more like a very basic TurboGrafx-16 game to me. Then again, the game is probably just intended to replicate a Sega Master System look, which I never played.

In any case, the visual style definitely helps it stand out from the other retro hordes, so let’s hope this one lives up to its promise when it releases next week!
