Publisher Merge Games and developer Jankenteam have announced a June 24, 2021 release date for Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. As previously announced in June of 2020, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX is a beautiful remake of the original 1986 game on Sega Master System.
It adds new levels never seen in the original game along with a remastered soundtrack of new and old tunes, but if you want a strictly retro experience, you can toggle on Retro Mode at any given moment to play the game with its original graphics. There is also a Boss Rush mode, and bosses in general have been retooled for “more intuitive combat.”
The new release date trailer for Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX shows off the cast of characters you will encounter, all lovingly rendered in beautiful new art, in addition to showing off the new pixel art for various levels. The environments practically sparkle from all the color and new detail.
If you’ve never played this game before — I haven’t played almost any Sega Master System games, honestly — Jankenteam’s Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX could be a great way to correct that this June on Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
Update: While the game will retail for $19.99 on the Switch eShop, you can buy a physical edition from Signature Edition for $35.09 or a special edition for $70.19 with the extra goodies outlined in the image below.
