Right, forget Rocket League. Forget fast-paced soccer in mini, futuristic cars. Here’s the spin on soccer we all needed. Alpaca Ball: Allstars has been revealed by Chapeau creator Salt Castle Studio, and it’s exactly how it sounds, sort of. Play as one of a variety of colorful alpacas and take part in weird physics-based soccer matches. The main aim here seems to be controlling the alpaca neck to strike the ball. Judging by the trailer, this might not be as easy as it seems.
Apparently, if you do manage to strike the ball perfectly, it can literally catch fire on its way to the goal. However, this is another game that embraces unpredictable physics. So, if you’re not facing the right way or are moving when you perfectly strike, who knows where the ball is headed? There are also multiple ball options such as beach balls, rugby balls, and even dice, all of which will affect how your shots travel through the air.
These variations also extend to the game’s arenas. Matches play out on tiny soccer fields, concrete courts, and even ice hockey pitches. We can’t imagine the scenes when a match full of colorful alpacas are losing control on an ice rink.
It seems that Alpaca Ball: Allstars is going for that Fall Guys level of physics-based unpredictability, and it could certainly be a party game hit. With a fully fledged career mode spanning the globe, customizable alpacas, and and eight-player local multiplayer on Switch, there might be more depth here than you first thought.
Alpaca Ball: Allstars launches Oct. 15 on Nintendo Switch.
