If you’ve never heard of the Pokémon Secret Club, I wouldn’t blame you. The Secret Club is an exclusive place where Japanese customers who have pre-ordered either Pokémon Sword or Shield can get access to exclusive videos, gifts, and contests. While there’s a bit of mystery as to the behind-the-scenes content, an even bigger mystery is playing out on the public-facing main page. The site has come under attack by a horde of Krabby!

While Krabby may seem like a random choice to attack the site, it turns out there’s a bit of wordplay going on, as pointed out by Serebii’s Joe Merrick. The characters which make up Krabby’s Japanese name are the same characters that compose the ending of the Secret Club’s Japanese name (see tweet below for reference). I definitely have to applaud The Pokémon Company for the pun here—well played!

However, given that the Secret Club is related to Pokémon Sword and Shield, a lot of fans are now speculating that it could be hinting at an upcoming reveal regarding Krabby. After all, the official sites have had a bit of fun with reveals before, having unveiled new Pokémon like Sirfetch’d through the use of a “glitched” page. Current rumors suggest that a potential Krabby reveal could take be for a Galarian form or even a new evolution. Maybe even both as they did with Zigzagoon?

Whether or not there’s any meaning behind it, it’s always fun to see what gags The Pokémon Company can come up with next. It helps keep the wait until the new games interesting, and for that, I appreciate them.

What do you think of this Krabby invasion? Is it just The Pokémon Company having a bit of fun, or do you think there’s some extra meaning to it?
