Overwatch has been an incredibly successful title for Blizzard, amassing over 40 million players in its first two years. That number could be much higher with a port to Nintendo Switch, and its beautiful aesthetic would feel right at home on the hybrid console. Blizzard has indicated in the past that a Switch version is possible, and they’d love to bring the game to a new audience. Despite this, there has been no official reveal. However, news of a Switch port may have just leaked.
The case of Overwatch on Switch
Popular peripheral manufacturer PowerA recently put up an Amazon listing for a new black and yellow Switch case. Strangely, the case is sporting an Overwatch theme. Why make a special case for a game that’s not on the platform? I suppose there’s a (small) market for just about anything, but things get more interesting when you look at the product description. According to PowerA, this carrying case is officially licensed by both Nintendo and Blizzard. I could see a third-party company making a custom case like that on their own, by why would Nintendo and Blizzard license a product for a non-existent game?
It seems likely that we’ll soon see an official announcement for Overwatch on Switch. Just days ago we reported that GameStop had several new listing for mystery Switch games. A Nintendo Direct could be just around the corner, and that would be the perfect venue for Nintendo to drop this reveal. As fun as the free-to-play Paladins is, it would be great to finally have Overwatch on Switch.
Update: Minutes after this article was posted, the Amazon listing was removed. We have included a screenshot below as evidence.
