Angry Alligator Backup Plan Lion Castle digital physical release October 2021 Nintendo Switch GS2 Games

Publisher Lion Castle and developer Backup Plan have announced open-world adventure Angry Alligator, which will launch on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in October 2021 physically and digitally, retailing for $29.99 on Switch. A precise release date isn’t set yet, but Amazon and GameStop list October 19, while Target lists October 12. The North American retail release will be handled by GS2 Games.

The premise of the game is that you are an angry alligator, and you are “on (a) quest to eat all that moves.” That rules. You will hunt and eat various animals like birds, deer, or eventually bears. Any beast or even tourist that comes your way is free game, and the more you eat, the more you will grow and become stronger. Along the way, you will rescue other gators from experimentation, stop polluters, evade drones, and defeat “boss beasts.” The world is supposed to be “colorful and massive” too, so the game sounds a lot like a land version of shark game Maneater, which in this case is a good thing.

Honestly, something about Angry Alligator has a shovelware vibe to me, but the core idea is so amusing that I just really hope it can land on its feet on Nintendo Switch. Any video game that lets you play as a vicious animal that eats everything in sight can’t possibly all be bad.
