James Rolfe has shared an update on the games based on the show he produces, explaining that Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe is aiming to release digitally in September, with a final release date to be announced with a new trailer soon. It will release on PC and all current consoles, including Nintendo Switch. A physical release will occur “a while after” this digital release. Additionally, the game soundtrack will apparently release on vinyl at some point.
The story of Angry Video Game Nerd I & II Deluxe is that the Angry Video Game Nerd has been sucked into Game Land and must navigate three treacherous retro worlds. This package brings together Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures: Remassturd and Angry Video Game Nerd II: Reassimilated, but with enhanced visuals, an improved game engine, (The first game was rebuilt with the second game’s “superior” engine.) an entirely new chapter to play, and even rebalanced level design.
About balancing, Easy and Normal modes will provide infinite lives and fairer level design, but there’s also an “Old School” difficulty mode that retains the original punishing game design — in addition to other, even more challenging difficulties.
Quality-of-life improvements are present as well. Faster respawning, multiple save slots, and a range of accessibility options enhance the experience. Finally, there are some “surprises” that the developers have yet to reveal. Hopefully these will make the game feel brand new when we maybe play it next month.
