Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an absolute juggernaut of a game. The adorable island sim has sold well over 30 million copies, but some of those players feel like they haven’t gotten their money’s worth. New Horizons is still missing some content and characters that were in past games, and updates have been few and far between. Nintendo recently promised that Animal Crossing fans could expect more free updates soon, and today we got our first reveal.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons free update
This Thursday, July 29, Nintendo will release a free update that brings fireworks back to the game. In addition to the weekly fireworks show, this update will add “new seasonal items,” but we don’t yet have a list. It’s… not much, but it’s something. And it’s hopefully the start of better things.
After announcing the fireworks and seasonal items, Nintendo also teased that “more free content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons is currently in development for later this year.” They had no additional details to share today, but ask fans to stay tuned for announcements in the future.
Hopefully, the future holds more major content expansions and not just small updates. After all, New Leaf got a massive update four years after launch, so there’s still hope for New Horizons. Like all development teams, Nintendo has been dealing with setbacks caused by COVID-19.
