The videos highlight two key aspects of the game. One appears to try to appeal more to parents and families, while the second may be aiming to appeal to fans of the series.
This first trailer shows a father slowly becoming more engaged with the game. I think I prefer this one out of the two new Japanese commercials, because it shows how easily families can play the game together. It’s so easy for parents to engage with their children in the game, even if they don’t always play at the same time. This commercial is more powerful for parents, while the second shows off the plethora of content on offer.
This second commercial looks more at the gameplay elements of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There seems to be a particular focus on the latest update, which added swimming and of course Pascal. It looks like a trailer that’s meant to convince Animal Crossing fans to finally take the plunge and play the latest game. It definitely makes me feel bad for not putting more hours into collecting bugs, fossils, and paintings.
