Animal Crossing New Horizons Japan Sales

This is certainly not the first time we’ve reported on how successful Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been for Nintendo. Still, the latest news on its sales certainly does impress. Physical sales for the latest entry in the series have now hit 5 million in Japan, as seen in a report from Famitsu. New Horizons now sits in the top 10 best selling games of all time in Japan. That’s not a bad feat in the three months since launch.

What’s equally as impressive is how it stacks up to the rest of Nintendo’s first-party lineup on Switch. According to Nintendo Life, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has breezed past both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pok√©mon Sword and Shield in total physical sales in Japan. As of June 21, those two had hit 3.73 million and 3.63 million sales, respectively.

Remember, New Horizons has also been a digital sales juggernaut. Last month, Nintendo confirmed that half of the game’s sales were from the Nintendo eShop, with the effects of COVID-19 seemingly pushing players towards a digital purchase. Whether this trend continues going forward remains to be seen. Either way, Nintendo will surely be happy at increased digital purchasing.

At this rate, Animal Crossing: New Horizons could go on to become one of Nintendo’s best selling games ever, on a global scale.
