Earlier today we reported that the Animal Crossing: New Horizons launch was the largest for a Nintendo Switch game in the U.K. Now, we can add the game has reportedly seen the biggest launch of any Nintendo Switch game ever in Japan as well.
News of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons launch being the largest in the region since the Switch was released comes via a Geo Corporation report shared by 4Gamer. VGC has added that this report puts the launch sales of the game at larger than those achieved by Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (1.2 million) or Pokémon Sword and Shield (1.3 million).
Now that we have data that the game has the biggest launch for the Switch in both the U.K. and Japan, we need to wait and see if the same is true of North America and the rest of Europe. It’s likely that sales will be much more substantial with digital units taken into account, mostly because so many people are self-isolating due to the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Hopefully Nintendo updates everyone on the overall unit sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons before the end of the month. They surely have big numbers worth reporting. Otherwise, the NPD Group will likely have something to say about it soon enough.
