Animal Crossing: New Horizons tops UK sales charts for yet another consecutive week. The game had very little competition in terms of new releases, bearing in mind that this sales chart only takes physical boxed game sales into account. The game saw a 35 percent drop in sales week on week, but that doesn’t seem to have done it any harm in the grand scheme of things.

In total there are three Nintendo Switch exclusives in the top 10 best-selling games for the week. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sits in fifth place, the same spot as last week. Luigi’s Mansion 3 comes in seventh place as yet another non-mover, meaning that all three Nintendo Switch exclusives haven’t dropped at all for the past week.

According to the data in this report, UK physical sales fell by 9% week on week, dropping to 200,000 units. This is still good for a given week in the UK at this point in the year, when physical sales usually come in at around 150,000 for a week. With lockdown in the country easing, and more people returning to work, it’s possible that there are simply less people around to purchase games.

While Animal Crossing: New Horizons tops UK sales charts for the week, there are some big releases on the way. When Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, for example, hits shelves, it could really give the latest Animal Crossing game a run for its money.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
