The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Winter Update details have been revealed, and this is a big one. Not only will we see the expected arrival of Christmas goodies, but Nintendo is delivering a host of quality-of-life improvements and save data transfer too. Winter is coming, and this year it takes place in Animal Crossing: New Horizons on Nintendo Switch.
Those big QOL improvements start with expanded storage space: After the update drops, your home has the ability to expand storage to 2400 slots, which is a welcome change. To upgrade your level of homeownership, you’ll have to visit Tom Nook at Resident Services and apply for extra home storage.
The other big QOL change is the implementation of the save data transfer system. Alongside the Winter Update, Nintendo is enabling the ability to move your New Horizons save data from one Switch to another. A new Island Transfer Tool app will go live on the Switch eShop to take you through the process. The system allows you to move over your user data, along with your island and its residents.
Winter is coming
Of course, Nintendo is also delivering what we expected to see in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Winter Update. A selection of winter-themed events, items, and styles are coming starting Nov. 19. Turkey Day kicks off the events schedule on Nov. 26, a feast for all. You’ll have to help Chef Franklin gather ingredients for dishes to be displayed in the plaza. If you help out, a free gift from Franklin will be handed out.
Toy Day turns things even more Christmas-like on Christmas Eve. From Dec. 1, toys will be available to purchase from Nook’s Cranny, to save for the big day. Holiday-themed clothing will also be on offer at the Able Sisters shop, so you can be truly ready for the night before Christmas. Toy Day kicks off on Dec. 24, and if you help deliver presents on your island, another reward will be up for grabs.
There’s a selection of other changes on the way too in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Winter Update. Nine new reactions and six new hairstyles will be available, acquired by using Nook Miles. Dreams are getting a new feature where you can choose to randomize which islands you visit while dreaming.
Finally, new seasonal items will be available throughout December at Nook Stop. There’ll even be some special stuff up for grabs between Dec. 26 and Dec. 31, to celebrate the new year. It looks like we’ll be welcoming the arrival of 2021 in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
What are you most looking forward to in this update?
