Update: Meet Menashe at the event! Come by on Sunday at the Grand Finals and you\’ll be able to watch the final showdowns together with the owner of Nintendo Enthusiast.
For three straight days, the very best that competitive fighting games and Pokemon have to offer will square off at Apex 2014, an annual tournament series that draws players from all around the globe to compete for prize money, bragging rights, and the top titles for some of today’s premier competitive games.
Starting tomorrow, competitors will begin their grueling brackets for games such as: Super Smash Bros. Melee, Brawl, 64. and Project M; Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Injustice, King of Fighters XIII; as well as Pokemon X/Y, which features the official Nintendo VGC ruleset.
Although originally a major that focused on Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the Apex tournament series will featured Brawl’s predecessor Melee as the final game of this year’s tournament – the Melee competition currently holds the record for most entrants for a Smash competition not including last year’s EVO and the most entrants for a Smash competition at a Smash-focused event. Project M, the Brawl mod meant to make the game more like Melee, was even able to wrestle in more entrants than Brawl, although many of these players are entering other games, as well, so Project M actually has less unique players than Brawl or Melee.
Apex 2014 starts up at 10am EST in Somerset, New Jersey.. You check check out the official streams for all the different games throughout the weekend – Team Sp00ky and Clash Tournaments will be providing coverage for Melee and Brawl pools, with 8WayRun and Bifuteki covering other events such as Smash 64 and the fighting game brackets. These streams will be transitioning between games all weekend, so be sure to follow them all to not miss any of the action!
The tournament culminates with Championship Sunday, featuring the top 8 players from Super Street Fighter IV, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, then finally Super Smash Bros. Melee, all on Team Sp00ky’s stream.
