If you had any worries over the latest PlatinumGames release being a flop, consider Astral Chain an official non-flop. GamesIndustry.biz reports that the latest PlatinumGames IP has reached No. 1 in the UK video game sales charts.

What’s especially impressive about this feat, though, is the fact that this is the first time a PlatinumGames video game has ever reached No. 1 on the UK charts. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance came close in 2013 when it secured a No.2 spot. Astral Chain is the company’s fourth most successful launch. Platinum’s biggest new IP launch however continues to be Bayonetta, which dropped back in January 2010.

The success of Astral Chain on the UK charts is doubly impressive when you think of the other new releases it had to compete with this week. The game beat out Wreckfest, the new FlatOut send-up published by THQ Nordic. PlatinumGames also came out above the highly anticipated and critically praised Remedy release Control, as well as the new Supermassive Games interactive horror experience, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan.

We sang the praises of Astral Chain in our recent review, so it’s no surprise that the quality of the game is translating into booming sales. Astral Chain is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
