Astral Chain

Fire Emblem: Three Houses comes out this Friday, but what if you’re just not a tactical RPG nut? Luckily there’s a high-octane action game coming out just one month later from the stylish action masters at PlatinumGames. A new Japanese trailer for that title, Astral Chain, shows off a frankly massive amount of gameplay, refocusing the image of this game that I had in my head.

Off the chain

The trailer shows off many different aspects of the game. We see character customization in the form of cosmetics and skill trees. Level exploration affirms that this is more than just a straight forward action game. Then there’s puzzle-solving and, of course, a whole lot of combat.

Astral Chain puts you in control of a special forces police officer and in command of Legions, powerful creatures physically tethered to you. The fast-paced action gets frantic as you control two bodies at once, alone or in co-op with another player. In this gameplay trailer, we get to see the player in control of the five different types of Legions: an offensive dual-wielder, an archer, an up-close-and-personal fighter, a rideable dog type, and a defensive swordsman.

Astral Chain is shaping up to be another hit from the Bayonetta developers, one that’ll surely tide over the wait for Bayonetta 3. Astral Chain launches August 30 and can be preordered right now. If you’re like me, you’ll be using those handy vouchers to grab both this and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
