Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is out today on Switch and PS5 in North America, only a few months behind its Japanese counterpart. With embargos lifting all around, loads of footage of the English port are swarming the internet, including Nintendo Everything‘s convenient video below of the opening fifty minutes of gameplay. You can check it out below to get a taste of what Atelier Ryza 2 is all about.

In many ways, this entry in the alchemic RPG franchise breaks a lot of new ground for the franchise. Direct sequels are quite rare for Atelier, especially for the 3D games, which up to this point have instead released in thematic trilogies, each game exploring its world with a different protagonist. The immense success of the first Atelier Ryza evidently convinced Koei Tecmo to revisit Ryza, however. Selling 420,000 copies, the first title revamped the series formula in a few ways and is currently the best-selling in the franchise – but we’ll see if the most recent entry can best its predecessor.

Will you be grabbing Atelier Ryza 2 on Switch? Why or why not? Have you played the first title, or are you just now giving the series a look? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
