The Metroid series has inspired countless games, but for my money, none of them are better than Axiom Verge. Created almost entirely by one man, Tom Happ, this sci-fi Metroidvania has been a major indie success story since its 2015 debut. But what has Happ been doing in all of the time since then? Today, we got our answer. During Nintendo’s Indie World presentation, Happ officially revealed Axiom Verge 2 with a new trailer. This highly-anticipated sequel will launch and Switch (and presumably other platforms) in the Fall of 2020. In the meantime, you can check out the reveal below!

Sequel or prequel?
Although it’s labeled as Axiom Verge 2, this new chapter in the series may also be a prequel. According to Nintendo of America, this game will let players “Discover the origins of the Axiom Verge universe.” Then again, it might not be that simple. The first game left players with many questions, and numerous theories have attempted to tie all the loose ends together. Let’s not forget, the original was marketed with this tagline: “Life. Afterlife. Real. Virtual. Dream. Nightmare. It’s a thin line.” Whatever the truth is, I’m excited to dive in next year!
