Amid the deluge of largely Japanese gaming news at New Game+ Expo today, Inti Creates provided a new trailer for Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 on Nintendo Switch, in addition to a development update message from action supervisor / executive producer / Comcept CEO Keiji Inafune. Inafune, who is also the creator of Mighty No. 9 (don’t laugh!) and former producer of the Mega Man franchise for Capcom, was revealed as an action supervisor for the game when it was first announced. He is working on the game with Inti Creates series director Yoshihisa Tsuda and, newly announced today, additional action director Hiroki Miyazawa, the Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon series director. Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 will launch in 2022.
The Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 gameplay shown after the update message from Keiji Inafune and Hiroki Miyazawa looks exactly as you would expect: hectic sidescrolling action and slick pixel art. The Inti Creates franchise has really developed its own identity and discarded some of the comparisons that used to regularly be made with Mega Man Zero and ZX. Granted, that also means that not all the people who enjoy Mega Man Zero enjoy Gunvolt, but that’s okay. It’s just great that Inti Creates has the artistic freedom to pursue its own IP.
