At the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase today, Square Enix and Balan Company revealed that Balan Wonderworld will launch for Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2021 (putting it in excellent company with Monster Hunter Rise). As the new trailer explains, Wonderland contains 12 stages, including ocean and wind stages. As Leo and Emma, you’ll wear different costumes (over 80 of them) that grant different abilities, such as riding the wind to float in the air. You can also punch stuff, because why wouldn’t you? Collecting hidden statues will allow you to progress to new stages. Basically, it looks and feels like Banjo-Kazooie mixed with Sonic the Hedgehog, and that’s awesome, right?
Balan Wonderworld was announced back in July as a new Square Enix title from Sonic the Hedgehog co-creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima, and it has a distinct Sonic flavor despite the platformer gameplay appearing to be a bit more deliberate in this title.
The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was easily the best one Nintendo has had so far, announcing a variety of great games people are already excited for, including the surprise shadow launch of Ori and the Will of the Wisps today on the Switch eShop. A final launch date for Square Enix’s Balan Wonderworld is a great treat as well. Stay tuned for more updates on these many games!
