Balan Wonderworld sales are seemingly not looking good. The game reportedly sold less than 2,100 copies in Japan during its first week and didn’t manage to break the top 30 bestselling games. The game’s sales have not breached the top 30 in the Nintendo Switch eShop in North America and Japan either. Yesterday’s U.K sales charts also revealed that Balan Wonderworld failed to break the country’s top 40.
Expectations for the game were high when it was announced last year. Fans of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise were excited to see the return of series creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima. A new 3D platformer from the duo who brought the Blue Blur to life felt like a real event. However, the game’s reception has been all over the place but mostly negative, and it has become the subject of many controversies. There have been various issues with the game, including a photo-sensitive epilepsy risk, performance issues, and something to do with Ghostbusters.
Unfortunately, it looks like we will have to write this game off as a critical flop. Hopefully this doesn’t affect the future of both Naka and Ohshima, as they have the potential to create something truly great. Did you end up buying Balan Wonderworld, and if so, are you regretting your purchase?
