Balan Wonderworld has received a new “Spectacle” trailer from Square Enix, showcasing new gameplay, costumes, and special abilities that players can expect out of the vivid platformer when it arrives next year. As has much been hyped, this game reunites Sonic the Hedgehog co-creators Yuji Naka and Naoto Ohshima to create an experience that sure seems to have flavors of Sega’s Sonic and Nights into Dreams — and we’re here for it.
The Balan Wonderworld Spectacle trailer shows off some of the more-than-80 costumes that protagonists Leo Craig and Emma Cole can wear in the game, along with their special abilities. The myriad costumes have festive names, including the Spin Wolf, Happy Blaster, Water Shooter, Pumpkin Puncher, Robo Launcher, Spider Head, Muscle Bull, Gliding Flower, and Octopus Painter. The in-game worlds themselves enjoy rich color and excellent lighting; one might suspect that the lighting will take a hit when it makes its way to Nintendo Switch, but that’s okay.
Balan Wonderworld launches on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on March 26, 2021. Until then, Square Enix will just keep teasing us with more piecemeal details like this. Nonetheless, it does appear to be shaping up as an enticing platformer. What do you think of it?
