Developer Naps Team has at long last announced an August 27, 2021 release date for action adventure Baldo: The Guardian Owls on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and Apple Arcade. The game combines an art style and whimsy reminiscent of Studio Ghibli with gameplay inspired by The Legend of Zelda, which sure sounds like it would appeal to the Nintendo Switch player base. It seems that the premise is that pure-hearted protagonist Baldo will go on a journey to ultimately stop a “no-heart creature sealed in the underworld” from causing havoc.
A couple months back, Baldo received 13 minutes of gameplay footage, if you would like to get a closer look at how it plays out. But it really does look like a riff on top-down Zelda, which is probably a good thing. You can expect numerous puzzles and dungeons in addition to the usual combat, and you can also expect more of whoever that hideous-looking lady is in the screen capture above. In any case, hopefully Baldo: The Guardian Owls will ultimately play as well as it looks in its release date trailer.
If you need more Zelda in your life, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD just released, and if you need more Ghibli in your life, definitely watch out for Hoa, even though it was delayed to August 24.
