Nintendo 64

All of our Nintendo journeys had to start somewhere. Over the decades, Nintendo has released a healthy number of different consoles and handhelds, nearly all of which managed to satisfy new fans while also bringing in a few brand new ones. Where did you hop onto the Nintendo train? What events led up to you securing your first Nintendo system? Which games did you play first?

Because my parents enjoy video games, I was born into a household with a handheld of older Nintendo systems, including a Nintendo 64. That system, which was in its twilight days when I was finally old enough to pick up a controller, ended up being my first taste of many classic franchises, including MarioStar Fox, The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Banjo-Kazooie, and more. As a kid, though, I had a very hard time understanding or making much progress in most titles on the system. I stuck with stuff I could get the hang of, including Yoshi’s StoryToy Story 2, and Mario Kart 64. I would load up some more complex or challenging games and mess around; I used to love running around Spiral Mountain in Banjo-Kazooie, and I had a habit of playing the first level of Star Fox 64 over and over because I was not able to get past the boss on the Meteo level. The Nintendo 64 was an excellent first Nintendo system for me, and I still find myself frequently revisiting its classic library today.
