Banjo-Kazooie revival backpack Exquisite Gaming EXG

Exquisite Gaming (EXG) produces licensed merchandise of various franchises in pop culture, especially for video games. On Twitter, they have teased an image of brand new Banjo-Kazooie merchandise that is soon to be announced. But on top of that, Banjo is sporting a new backpack design in the image, suggesting that this merch is connected to a new game project of some kind. EXG’s video game merchandise often launches alongside new game projects, so things are looking good.

Some are speculating that this tease means Banjo-Kazooie will appear as new DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and while that would be awesome — I really doubt it. What’s more likely is that Microsoft and Rare will announce a new Banjo-Kazooie game of some kind for the Xbox One, whether it’s a remake or a brand new entry.

Following two entries on Nintendo 64, a surprisingly awesome isometric platformer on Game Boy Advance, and some GBA racing game, the only brand new Banjo game to ever appear on a Microsoft console was Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts on Xbox 360. That was nearly 11 years ago. More than enough time has passed to reignite the demand for Banjo. (Although its spiritual successor, Yooka-Laylee, is pretty decent too.)

If an Xbox One game is indeed announced, let’s hope it goes the way of Cuphead and gets a Switch port!

And if you need more Banjo in your life right now, be sure to check out this Banjo mod that turns the game into Donkey Kong Country!
