Luigi's Mansion 3

Barring any extremely unlikely surprises, the Switch’s AAA exclusives for the year are all wrapped up with Pokémon Sword and Shield’s release. 2019 was a banner year for the Switch, with plenty of fantastic titles like Super Mario Maker 2Astral ChainFire Emblem: Three Houses and many more. Which was your favorite?

I still have not had the opportunity to try out too many Switch exclusives from 2019, so my answer is subject to change, but currently, I prefer Luigi’s Mansion 3 above Super Mario Maker 2 and Yoshi’s Crafted World. In my review, I praised the game for its creative puzzles, the pleasant mix of atmospheres from its two predecessors, and the unexpectedly fantastic multiplayer suite.

Of course, Luigi’s Mansion 3 has some fairly fierce competition, and many of our other authors would probably have different answers. John Friscia gave Super Mario Maker 2 a 9 out of 10, Brett Medlock gave Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Astral Chain each a 9.5 out of 10, and Danny Thompson just gave Pokémon Sword and Shield a 9. The field is very, very crowded.

What’s your pick? Have you gotten to try out every Switch exclusive from this year yet? What are you still hoping to play? Did any game really surprise you this year, or did your most anticipated title end up on top? Sound off in the comments.
