One of the more bizarre and random announcements (Okay, to be honest, they were all random.) of today’s Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase was of Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions from Survios. It’s a new Nintendo Switch boxing game based on the Rocky franchise and comes from the same developer of the generally well-received VR game Creed: Rise to Glory, which released in 2018. This title, as one would expect, is not VR-enabled, but it will allow you to play as most or all the icons, including Rocky Balboa, Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed, Ivan and Victor Drago, and Clubber Lang. (Fingers crossed for Adrian DLC.)
We have cued up the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase video to the relevant moment.
Curiously, the camera angle used in the Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions trailer makes it seem like it will be more of a fighting game than a traditional, behind-the-back boxing game. It remains to be seen whether that was a good decision.
Nonetheless, descriptions of the game make it sound like it’s trying to be a somewhat robust Rocky experience, as aside from the usual arcade and head-to-head multiplayer games, you can also “hone your skills in classic Rocky training montages,” which amount to mini-games of some sort.
It’s a little early to make heads or tails of Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions, but we should give Survios the benefit of the doubt considering Creed: Rise to Glory turned out fine. The game will come to Nintendo Switch in spring 2021.
