It’s been a long and winding road, but Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night finally has a release date: June 25, 2019 on Switch, and June 18, 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam, and GOG. 505 Games says the extra week till Switch is to “get that polish” in. To commemorate the announcement, there is a new trailer illustrating improvements made to the game over time. But they… did it in a way you might not expect.
Yeah, they had the guts to embed dozens of internet comments into the video, all of them complaining about the old art style of Bloodstained. The video itself describes the old style as “poop” as a joke before flashing off the vibrant and attractive new art style.
Honestly, the old style never bothered me in the first place, but there’s no denying the new style is a huge improvement. I’m just psyched to finally play this big new adventure from Koji Igarashi. It’s been far too long since we got an actual Igavania game, even though the amount of “Metroidvania” titles releasing is otherwise the highest it’s ever been. It also still stings for me that Castlevania Anniversary Collection contained none of the Igavania entries.
