Merge Games and Dark Screen Games bring Bounty Battle indie hero brawler action to Nintendo Switch in summer 2020

Today’s Indie World showcase was a welcome distraction amidst COVID-19 chaos and shutdowns. While the presentation itself was a little underwhelming – there was no mention of Sports StoryHollow Knight: Silksong, or Axiom Verge 2, for example – there were several new reveals, and a few games seem promising. Which was your favorite on the day?

As a sucker for couch multiplayer, Bounty Battle is my pick from the day’s announcements. In-depth brawlers that aren’t Super Smash Bros. are generally a mixed bag at best, but with a promising cast of indie heroes and some enticing gameplay, I’m ready to give this one a chance. Indie local multiplayer titles are my bread and butter – when they’re good, like Ultimate Chicken Horse or Towerfall, they rest among some of the best of the best across the entire Switch library. Going off of what we’ve seen, I’m not anticipating anything near that caliber, but a satisfying, heated game with tight controls and a vibrant suite of maps and modes would absolutely enjoy some time in my rotation.

What was your favorite reveal from today’s Indie World showcase? What did you think of the show overall? Hopefully, the show will serve as a mere precursor to a blowout Direct next week, as rumored, because today was not enough to satiate my need for Nintendo news.
