Bravely Default II will release later this month, but if you’re not familiar with its battle system, Square Enix has you covered with a new trailer covering the basics of Bravely combat. Check out the trailer titled “A Brave New Battle” below:
The battle system of Bravely Default II revolves around using “Brave Points.” Party members gain 1 BP a turn and use them to perform actions such as attacks or using items. Using the “Brave” function, you can make characters spend BP that they don’t have to perform additional moves. However, using any BP that you don’t have means you’ll miss future turns. For example, you can start a battle with four attacks from Seth, but that would mean that he won’t be able to attack for the next four turns. That approach works wonders while farming small-fry monsters, but it might not work against more formidable enemies or bosses.
On the other hand, the “Default” function essentially makes a character not attack and protect themselves against attacks for the turn to gain 1 BP. There are many situations where using Default is the best way to go. For example, if an enemy uses a powerful defensive ability, instead of hitting it for 0 damage, you can spend the turn accumulating BP for the party using Default.
Bravely Default II launches for the Nintendo Switch on Feb. 26, 2021. Check out the latest details on its story, new jobs, and strategic counters as well.
