We reported recently on a glitch that had been found to experience The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in first-person. However, with the power of mods, we can do one better than that. A group of fans is working on a Breath of the Wild VR mod with both first- and third-person perspectives and has released a first test video online, and the results are stunning. Even without viewing the footage in VR yourself, the fresh perspective is instantly immersive when combined with the higher resolution presented.
Per UploadVR, the Breath of the Wild VR mod is being made with Wii U emulator Cemu, and it will likely require a powerful rig to take full advantage of it when it’s done. A public release could still be several months away though. And if you’re wondering if this mod might utilize motion controls, the video description explains that motion controls “would be a very different modding challenge,” and the team is not sure if it’s possible to add that right now. However, they did offer, “We may go with a method that uses similar controls to the Wii (and soon Switch) Skyward Sword where gestures with your VR controller causes different swings.”
Of course, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can already be experienced in a sort of VR with Labo VR, but it’s a pretty underwhelming and simplistic experience. This Breath of the Wild VR mod looks to be much more what fans are really interested in.
