After Mega Man 11‘s success in sales and in our hearts, Capcom has decided on the next major Mega Man game, though they are still keeping hush as to what exactly that entails. See the quote below, taken from an interview between 4Gamer and series producer Kazuhiro Tsuchyia.
“There are a lot of titles I personally want to work on, but to tell the truth the next game to be developed has already been decided on, I’d just like to keep the specific details hidden for the moment. Please wait until we make an announcement. Still, I think that the there’s no such thing as a spin-off in the Mega Man series, every saga is a main series on its own. When speaking of ‘Mega Man’, there will always be people who think of ‘X’, as well as people who think of ‘EXE’, and I think that’s why each one’s concept of what Mega Man is changes depending on the generation. For that reason, we don’t want to deny any series of its future.”
As you can see, Tsuchyia also discusses how he isn’t necessarily ruling out any of Mega Man‘s many popular subseries for the next title, so the next “main” game could end up being a lot of things.
This statement echoes comments from late last year which confirmed that the next major game in the series will enter pre-production in 2019. Based on Tsuchyia’s interview, the early development process seems to be on track.
