Banjo-Kazooie

Banjo-Kazooie is beloved for many reasons, not the least of which is the incredible soundtrack arranged by Grant Kirkhope. While you’ve probably heard several bits of the soundtrack by now on its own (even if you haven’t played the game), and even though the series seems to be on hiatus for the indefinite future, there’s still more to love about the soundtrack. Part of that is because Grant Kirkhope is still churning out remixes of classic tracks from the game. Take, for example, his seasonally appropriate remix of the music for Mad Monster Mansion, which is by far the most haunted level in the game. You can listen to it below, link courtesy of Kirkhope’s Bandcamp page. It takes a while to pick up, but once it gets going, it is a delight.

What did you think? Do you like this latest remix more or less than Grant Kirkhope’s original work in Banjo-Kazooie? Does the remix put you in the mood to experience the game all over again? While I can’t personally claim to prefer this to the original track, I still totally love it, and I’m tempted to fire up Rare Replay as soon as I’m finished writing this sentence so that I can play Banjo-Kazooie all over again.
