Sonic the Hedgehog Chao in Space animated webshort Sega

Fans have been clamoring for eons for a Sonic Adventure 3, and, well, they can go on clamoring. It’s not likely to happen anytime soon, unless you’re willing to give that moniker to Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 [insert evil snicker]. However, one thing that has endured from the Sonic Adventure games is the adorable little species of the Chao. And to celebrate the holidays, Sega has released a new animated Sonic webshort called “Chao in Space.” It is made by the same team that created web series Sonic Mania Adventures and Team Sonic Racing: Overdrive for Sega. Have a watch!

“Chao in Space” isn’t exactly a conventional holiday tale. Sonic the Hedgehog and the Chao don’t team up with Santa Claus to stop Eggman from robbing Santa of all the Christmas toys or anything like that. (Although, actually, a little of that does happen, yeah.) Overall, it’s mostly just a fun story about… Chao in space. And it’s pretty beautifully illustrated. It’s not likely to raise hysteria or cost a studio $5 million redesigning the look of any of its characters.

Do you have any favorite holiday-themed video game moments? My memories are vague, but I enjoyed the fictional holidays in Persona 4 Golden on the Vita some years back.
