Charles Martinet I want to voice Mario until I drop dead Super Mario Sunshine favorite game

Charles Martinet is one of the most beloved people in the entire Nintendo fandom, because he is both an utterly kind individual and also the person who provides colorful voices to iconic characters like Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. Martinet recently appeared at Fan Expo Canada: Limited Edition for a 30-minute Q&A, and The Game Crater has covered all the highlights. It’s an entertaining read all around, though most of it is stuff that longtime fans already know about the man. However, there are a couple gems in there, such as Charles Martinet saying Super Mario Sunshine is his favorite game in the series, and he also encouragingly said, “I want to voice Mario until I drop dead.”

He said the latter in response to a fan who asked how long he intended to voice the characters. Although, in the interest of fairness, Martinet also added, “If someday I think I am no longer capable of doing it, I will tell Nintendo to look into finding someone else.” Naturally, we are all rooting for his health and vocal cords to stay pristine into perpetuity.

And on the subject of why Charles Martinet picks Super Mario Sunshine as his favorite game in the franchise, he jokingly explained, “It’s my favorite Mario game because I was very bad at it, especially when I had to think backwards. But I loved the game’s message of cleaning up the island and it was just a fun game.” So, Sunshine fans can rejoice that Martinet is on their team.

Anyway, we hope that Martinet does not drop dead for a long, long time, because we love hearing him voice Mario and his other Nintendo characters — and we’re looking forward to his cameo roles in the Super Mario Illumination movie as well.
