Publisher Merge Games and developer Ion Lands are bringing Cloudpunk to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One this year. This comes in addition to a previously announced PC release. It is a futuristic cyberpunk adventure game with voxel-based graphics, and you play as a delivery driver traveling the vibrant and mysterious cityscape. It’s not all flying around in a cool future car though. You can do some walking too, and the game is aiming to add a worthwhile narrative as well. Take a look at the console announcement trailer.
Cloudpunk comes to Nintendo Switch
Merge Games and Ion Lands describe Cloudpunk like this:
Taking inspiration from other story-based titles such as Firewatch and Kentucky Route Zero, Cloudpunk is filled with characters to meet, alongside a multitude of stories to discover as you explore the neon-streaked world which finds inspiration from real places such as Shinjuku in Tokyo, as well as Hong Kong and Seoul.
Your name is Rania. This is your first night working for Cloudpunk, the semi-legal delivery company based in Nivalis. Explore dense, vertical landscapes that reach high into the clouds and deep down through the ocean waves below, as you meet characters ranging from Androids and AI to unscrupulous humans at every level of society.
Games about driving around and developing a narrative through unorthodox means have strangely come into vogue, with the likes of Neo Cab and Night Call. Cloudpunk will be more of a genuine hands-on adventure though, with “hidden places and items” to discover that will unlock new story segments. This could be a unique game worth putting on your radar this year, so stay tuned for more updates.
