So, this is an odd one. Gematsu has spotted a new mobile game called Code Name: X from publisher Perfect World Entertainment, which published Torchlight III last year. Code Name: X will be the first mobile game made for a “famous Japanese console game series” that has surpassed 10 million units sold, and all signs point to that series being Atlus’ Persona, with additional details suggesting it’s Persona 5 specifically. The interface of two available Chinese teaser images (below) is reminiscent to that of Persona 5, and the music and general art aesthetic appear to be in line with those of the game as well. Plus, as Gematsu notes, even the file names at the game’s website reference “p5.”
Otherwise, all that is known is that Code Name: X will use new rendering technology to create a realistic Japan and improve renders used in the unspecified (clearly Persona) original series. The trailer meanwhile teases extremely vague things like “hacking.”
Your guess is as good as ours of what form this title will ultimately take and how it will fit canonically into the franchise. To date, Persona 5 has appeared on mobile — but mostly as a cameo in Dragalia Lost as a result of Persona 5 Strikers coming to Switch.
