Earlier this month, we received news the original Shantae for Game Boy Color was coming to Switch. It hit the eShop yesterday, in all its 8-bit glory. Its launch heralded a major cause of celebration. Now, the entire Shantae series can be purchased on Nintendo Switch. That’s five games on one hybrid console!
All of the Shantae series under one roof
WayForward, Shantae‘s developer, is aware of this particular milestone. As such, it created a YouTube video for the occasion:
Interestingly, WayForward decided to showcase the series backward instead of chronologically. We see more recent fare like Shantae and the Seven Sirens, to my personal favorite Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, all the way back to OG Shantae. There are so many consoles represented, too: Wii U, DS, and Game Boy Color. Shantae has been around for quite a while!
The co-creator and writer/director of the Shantae series, Matt Bozon, shared this interesting tidbit on Twitter:
Erin created Shantae to be for the SNES originally. So playing with a SNES wireless controller today, finally, 27 years later on Nintendo hardware – wow it’s hard to describe how awesome this feels! ???????? @Erinbozon? pic.twitter.com/66VedYshvW

It may have taken close to 30 years, but Matt can finally play Shantae the way it was originally envisioned. It brings a tear to my eye!
